Bike Tours Athens Compare Tours

What Do Bike Tours Athens Cost?

Every tour on Bike Tours Athens is listed with a from-price, the lowest amount the booking page quotes for that ride. On shared group tours that figure is a flat per-person rate. On private tours the from-price is also per person, but the listing states it varies by group size.

Across the 31 tours compared here, from-prices run from $28.66 to $158.18, with a median of $54. That spread reflects real differences in what each ride includes, not just marketing. The cheapest listing, "Glyfada to Voula Coast Ride" at $28.66 per person, is a 2-hour coastal run starting at Vergoti Square in Glyfada. At the top end, the "Aegina E-Bike and Walking Day Trip" at $158.18 per person is a 12-hour island day trip with ferry tickets included.

The five categories break down like this. City and Acropolis rides span $40.12 to $103.16, covering both shared neighborhood loops and one private ride with wine or ouzo included. E-bike tours span $33.24 to $97.43 across 12 listings, the largest category on the site. Riviera and coast rides run from $28.66 to $74.50. Sunset and night rides sit in a narrow band, $33.24 to $54 across 3 tours. Private and day trips run higher than everything else, from $61.90 to $158.18, and that is expected: four of the five are private groups, and the category adds long-haul trips to Mount Hymettus and the island of Aegina.

Use the chart and table below to see where each individual tour falls inside its category range, and remember the median of $54 when scanning: roughly half the listings quote below that point.

A few factors push a from-price up or down, and the listings make most of them visible before you book.

  • Bike type. Regular-bike rides such as "Neighborhood Ride, Helmet Included" at $40.12 per person sit at the lower end. Some listings state the e-bike is an upgrade paid separately: "Historical Centre Bike Ride" lists an e-bike upgrade as an exclusion, and "Neighborhoods and Beach, 5 Hours" lists quality e-bikes at an extra 15 EUR.
  • Ride length. The 12-hour "Aegina E-Bike and Walking Day Trip" tops the whole site at $158.18 per person, while the "1-Hour Express E-Bike Tour" quotes $45 per person for a fast loop with no stops.
  • Tickets. Acropolis entry changes the math. On "E-Bike Tour, Acropolis Tickets Included" the from-price is $79.09 per person with tickets bundled in; the listing states the Acropolis entry fee adds EUR 30 per person only when booked without tickets. The "Regular or E-Bike, Optional Acropolis" listing also sells the guided Acropolis visit as a selectable option.
  • Private bookings. The private listings, from $67 to $158.18 per person, are priced per person and vary with group size, which is why they cluster at the top of the range.
A small group with bikes on a rocky hilltop path looking out over the Acropolis and the city
  • Food stops. Rides with a tasting or treat included, such as "City to Sea E-Bike, Pastry Tasting" at $51.58 per person, fold that into the price.

One cost that never moves: free cancellation is stated on all 31 listings.

Which Bike Tours Athens Fit Your Pace, Fitness And Group?

The picker below asks three questions and rebuilds your shortlist from the 31 tours each time you answer one. The questions cover tour type, ride length and price band, so a single tap can cut the list from 31 tours to a handful that match your pace, your fitness and your group.

Tour type is where pace and fitness get decided. E-bike tours, the largest type here, suit riders facing Athens hills or summer heat: the motor does the climbing while you steer. Of the 31 tours, 26 offer an e-bike as standard or as an option. Regular-bike tours, like the city and Acropolis rides on standard bicycles, ask more of your legs over the same distance. Private groups change the pace differently, since the ride moves with your group rather than a fixed schedule; 5 tours on the site are private groups, and their per-person from-price varies with group size.

Cheapest from-price in each tour type, per person, USD

Ride length and price band then trim the shortlist further. If you want a short spin, the length question filters out the 5-hour and 12-hour listings. If your ceiling is the median from-price of $54, the price band keeps the $28.66 Glyfada coast ride in view while dropping the $158.18 Aegina day trip. Answer the three questions in any order and the shortlist reflects what the listings state, nothing else.

1. What kind of ride are you after?
2. How much time do you have?
3. What are you happy to pay per person?

Once the picker hands you a shortlist, three comparisons do most of the work.

  • Ride length. The listings state exact durations, from the 1-hour "1-Hour Express E-Bike Tour" to the 12-hour "Aegina E-Bike and Walking Day Trip". Match the length to your day, not just your budget.
  • Bike type. 26 of the 31 tours offer an e-bike as standard or as an option. Check whether the from-price covers the e-bike itself or whether it is a paid upgrade: "Neighborhoods and Beach, 5 Hours" lists quality e-bikes at an extra 15 EUR.
  • Group size. Where a cap is stated, the listings quote it precisely. "Regular or E-Bike, Optional Acropolis" caps at 12 riders, "City Ride, Greek Treat Included" at 8, "Glyfada to Voula Coast Ride" at 6, and "Historic E-Bike, 1.5 to 2.5 Hours" at 20. Some listings state no cap, so treat a missing cap as unstated rather than unlimited.

Private options deserve a separate look. Five tours are private groups, and each is priced per person with a from-price that varies by group size, so compare the quoted rate for your actual headcount rather than the headline figure. The private listings range from $67 to $158.18 per person in from-price.

City And Acropolis Rides Past The Rock, Plaka And The Old Agora

5 tours, from $40.12 per person

All 5 City And Acropolis Rides on one page →

The five rides in this category stay inside the city, threading the streets around the Acropolis, Plaka, the Ancient Agora and Monastiraki. Prices start at $40.12 per person and reach $103.16 per person, with durations running from 2.5 hours to 3.5 hours according to the listings.

Four of the five listings state that a bike is included, four state a helmet is included, and four state a guide is included. Free cancellation is stated on all five listings, which matches the site-wide figure of 31 tours offering it. E-bikes are standard or an option on two tours in the category, and one ride runs as a private group.

The top-reviewed listing here is "Regular or E-Bike, Optional Acropolis", rated 5.0 over 3,666 reviews. Its booking page offers an Acropolis guided tour with a licensed guide for those who select the "Bike Tour + Acropolis" option, though the Acropolis entry ticket is excluded unless that option is chosen. The listing states its e-bikes suit riders 147 cm and taller, with smaller bikes arranged on request for riders between 147 and 160 cm, and participants under 147 cm able to join with a regular bike. Tours run in all weather, rain or shine, per the listing.

Group caps are stated on four tours in this category, ranging from 10 to 12 travellers. The "3-Hour Ride, Light Refreshments" listing, rated 4.9 over 906 reviews, caps its shared group at 12 and includes light refreshments and snacks. The "Historical Centre Bike Ride" listing, rated 4.9 over 97 reviews, includes coffee and/or tea and bottled water, and lists comfortable clothes as the thing to bring. The "Private Ride, Wine or Ouzo Included" listing, rated 5.0 over 21 reviews, includes food tasting and alcoholic beverages, with a per-person from-price of $103.16 that varies by group size. None of the listings state hotel pickup.

Two further rides sit in this category beyond the cards above. "Historical Centre Bike Ride" is priced from $45 per person, runs 3 hours with a group max of 12, and starts at Tzireon 12 in the Makrygianni area beside the Acropolis Museum. Its listing includes bike and helmet, an English speaking certified facilitator, third party liability cover, coffee and/or tea, and bottled water, while entrance fees to sites, monuments and museums are excluded, along with an e-bike upgrade.

"Private Ride, Wine or Ouzo Included" is the private option here, from $103.16 per person varying by group size, running 3 hours 30 minutes from Apostolou Pavlou 53 in Thissio. The listing includes bottled water, food tasting, a tour escort/host and alcoholic beverages, and states infant seats are available and pushchairs are accessible. The listing leaves bike and helmet inclusions unstated.

Free cancellation is stated on every listing in this category. Meeting points cluster in three areas: Athanasiou Diakou 16 near the Acropolis, the Makrygianni and Thissio streets below the rock, and Petralona further west. If a licensed guide inside the Acropolis matters to you, the listings show only the Acropolis options carry that, and the entry ticket depends on which option you select at booking.

E-Bike Tours For Athens' Hills, Heat And Longer Routes

12 tours, from $33.24 per person

All 12 E-Bike Tours on one page →

This is the largest category on the site, 12 tours, with from-prices spanning $33.24 to $97.43 per person. Durations run from a 1-hour express ride up to 4.5 hours, with a median of 3 hours across the parsed listings. Every listing in the category states a bike is included, 11 state a guide is included, and eight state a helmet is included. Free cancellation is stated on all 12 listings. Two of the rides are e-bike trikes.

The e-bike format suits riders who want help with distance and hills, and several listings spell out who fits. "E-Bike Hidden Gems and Highlights" sets a minimum age of 16 years, requires basic cycling ability with a test ride, and lists a maximum of 12 riders. "Mid-Motor E-Bike, Live Audio Guide" states an age restriction of 14+, a confident cycling skill level, and an easy outdoor difficulty rating, running rain or shine. "City Ride, Greek Treat Included" asks that participants be under 120kg/260 pounds and familiar with riding in city conditions, and states the tour cancels with a full refund in the event of rain.

"Fast-Paced Ride, Pasteli Snack" is from $68.77 per person, 3 hours with a group max of 10, and lists a moderate fitness level requirement plus a maximum of 10 travellers. The two trikes complete the set: "Apostle Paul Trike, Candle Lighting" from $97.43 per person includes a trike, a candle, a water bottle and a professional local guide, and "Trike Ride, Training Session First" from $80 per person states that anyone under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. "1-Hour Express E-Bike Tour", from $45 per person with a group max of 8, states it is fast-paced with no stops. Free cancellation is stated on every listing in the category, so the differentiator is group size, duration and whether the listing enters any site.

Riviera And Coast Rides Along The Saronic Gulf

6 tours, from $28.66 per person

All 6 Riviera And Coast Rides on one page →

Six rides head out of the city toward the Saronic Gulf, with from-prices from $28.66 to $74.50 per person. Five of the six listings state a bike is included, all six state a helmet is included, four state a guide is included, and free cancellation is stated on all six. Who suits these rides depends on the listing. "E-Bike Ride to the Seaside" asks you to bring easy clothing, sunscreen and beachwear, and states that if the weather permits and you bring swimwear, you can stop for a swim. "Coastal Ride, Swimming Stop" states a maximum of 10 travellers and notes infant seats are available. "Glyfada to Voula Coast Ride", the category's lowest from-price at $28.66 per person, caps its group at 6, starts at Vergoti Square in Glyfada, and includes a locker, 500ml water, a map, a helmet and third party insurance. No listing in the category states hotel pickup.

Free cancellation is stated on every listing in this category. The meeting points split between the Thissio and Koukaki streets below the Acropolis and the Glyfada square on the coast itself, so where you are staying may decide whether a city-departure coast ride or a Glyfada start fits your day better.

Sunset And Night Rides Under The City Lights

Cyclists riding at sunset past Filopappou Hill with the Acropolis glowing in the distance
3 tours, from $33.24 per person

All 3 Sunset And Night Rides on one page →

Three rides make up this category, with from-prices from $33.24 to $54 per person. Durations run from 2 hours to 3 hours, with a median of 2.5 hours. The listings do not state lighting arrangements on the Acropolis, so what you get is what each booking page describes: evening or night timing through the city.

All three listings state a bike is included, all three state a guide is included, and two state a helmet is included. Free cancellation is stated on all three, and e-bikes are standard or an option on all three. Group caps are stated on two tours, ranging from 8 to 12 travellers. None run as private groups.

"2-Hour Night Highlights E-Bike", from $54 per person and rated 4.9 over 580 reviews, is the shortest at 2 hours. Its listing states photo stops at highlights but no entry to archaeological sites requiring a licensed guide, and sets child rules: passengers aged 4 to 11 ride on the back seat or in a co-pilot position on an adult's bike, while children wanting their own e-bike must book under the "Youth 11-14" price category and must be taller than 1.50 meters with good balance. It starts at Apostolou Pavlou Street 53 in Thissio.

"Sunset Ride, Regular or E-Bike", from $33.24 per person and rated 5.0 over 169 reviews, runs 2 hours 30 minutes with a group max of 12 and lets you pick a regular bike or an e-bike at booking. Its listing states e-bikes suit riders 147 cm and taller, with smaller bikes arranged for riders between 147 and 160 cm and regular bikes available for participants under 147 cm, and that tours run in all weather. "Night Ride, Greek Treat Included", from $51 per person and rated 4.8 over 105 reviews, runs 3 hours with a group max of 8 and states bottled water and a Greek treat are included. No listing states hotel pickup.

The two listings beyond the cards above fill out the picture. "Sunset Ride, Regular or E-Bike" ties with the Small Group E-Bike Tour for the lowest from-price among the site's most-reviewed rides, at $33.24 per person, running 2 hours 30 minutes with a group max of 12 from Athanasiou Diakou 16, near the Acropolis. Its listing includes top quality electric or regular bikes according to your selection, a helmet, an English speaking tour leader, VAT and all taxes, and an Athens city suggestions list, and it excludes hotel pickup and drop off. It is rated 5.0 over 169 reviews.

"Night Ride, Greek Treat Included" is from $51 per person, 3 hours with a group max of 8, starting at Praxitelous 22 in the commercial centre near Syntagma. The listing states a Greek treat and bottled water are included, leaves the helmet unstated, and sets the same conditions as its daytime counterpart listing: participants should be under the stated weight limit, the tour cancels with a full refund in the event of rain, and you ride some regular streets with cars, mostly pedestrian streets, crossing traffic lights, so familiarity with city riding is expected. Entrance fees are not included and the listing does not enter the sights. It is rated 4.8 over 105 reviews.

Free cancellation is stated on all three listings in this category. The meeting points sit in Thissio, by the Acropolis museum streets, and in Plaka, all within the old centre, so the practical choice comes down to duration, the 8-traveller cap against the 12-traveller cap, and whether a Greek treat or a regular-or-e-bike choice matters more to your evening.

Private And Day Trips To Hymettus And Aegina

Cyclists riding a harbour road on Aegina island with fishing boats beside them
5 tours, from $61.90 per person

All 5 Private And Day Trips on one page →

Five listings sit in this category, with from-prices from $61.90 to $158.18 per person. Four run as private groups, and those four show per-person from-prices that vary by group size, as the data states. Durations range from 2.5 hours to 12 hours, with a median of 3 hours. All five listings state a bike is included, a helmet is included, a guide is included, and free cancellation is offered. E-bikes are standard or an option on all five.

Two listings state group caps, both at 8. The longest ride here is "Aegina E-Bike and Walking Day Trip" at 12 hours, from $158.18 per person varying by group size, rated 5.0 over 10 reviews. Its listing includes an e-bike from and to Athens, a helmet, ferry tickets, a tour leader from and to Athens, and all fees and taxes, and excludes snacks and bottled water. It states travellers should have a moderate physical fitness level and need to know how to ride a bike, and it is not recommended for pregnant travellers. Aegina is a Saronic Gulf island that the day tour explores by e-bike and on foot.

Aegina E-Bike and Walking Day Trip

"Hymettus Mountain E-Bike Tour" is 5 hours, from $61.90 per person, rated 5.0 over 5 reviews, with a group max of 8 and a shared format. The listing carries the same fitness and cycling-ability requirements as the Aegina trip, plus a local tour leader and quality e-bike rental from and to Athens downtown.

"Private Electric Bike, 3 Hours" is from $80.23 per person varying by group size, rated 5.0 over 187 reviews, and its listing states the tour suits all fitness levels as long as you are an able cyclist, with infant seats available. No listing in the category states hotel pickup.

Two more listings complete this category. "Private E-Bike, 2 Hours 30 Minutes" is from $85.97 per person varying by group size, rated 5.0 over 69 reviews, running 2 hours 30 minutes as a private group from Apostolou Pavlou Street 53 in Thissio. Its listing includes a tour leader, a safety briefing, use of an electric bicycle and helmet, and bottled water, and excludes food and drinks unless specified plus gratuities. It states pushchairs are accessible, service animals are allowed and infant seats are available.

Two cyclists in rain jackets riding along a wet street lined with orange trees on a grey winter morning

"Private E-Bike, Map and Water" is from $67 per person varying by group size, rated 5.0 over 3 reviews, 3 hours as a private group with a stated group max of 8, starting at Praxitelous 22 in the commercial centre near Syntagma. The listing states bottled water is included, and its notes say a different starting time can be arranged on request, the tour cancels with a full refund in the event of rain, and the ride takes place on some regular streets or pedestrian streets, so you must be familiar with riding a bike in city conditions.

Free cancellation is stated on all five listings in this category. Meeting points split between Athanasiou Diakou 16 in Makrygianni near the Acropolis metro and Apostolou Pavlou 53 on the Thiseio side, plus Praxitelous 22 in the commercial centre near Syntagma, and Veikou 131 in Koukaki for the Aegina island day trip. Since four of the five are private, the per-person price you actually pay depends on group size, so comparing listed from-prices alone can mislead, and the listing pages carry the size-based breakdown.

Where Do Bike Tours Athens Start, And Can You Bring A Bike On The Metro?

Cyclists gather with bikes beside a stone fountain near the Acropolis metro station as a guide hands out helmets.

Every guided ride on Bike Tours Athens begins at a fixed meeting point, and the listings name them street by street. The busiest single address is Athanasiou Diakou 16 in Makrygianni, a short roll from the Acropolis metro stop, where six tours set off, covering the classic Acropolis circuit, a small-group option, the sunset ride, the city-to-sea route with a pastry stop, and an e-bike version with Acropolis tickets included. A second cluster sits at Apostolou Pavlou 53 in Thissio, the departure point for "Private Ride, Wine or Ouzo Included", "Private E-Bike, 2 Hours 30 Minutes", "E-Bike Coast Ride, Water Included", "E-Bike Ride to the Seaside" and "Street Art and Greek Life E-Bike".

From there the points fan out around the historic core. Praxitelous 22 in the commercial centre near Syntagma serves "City Ride, Greek Treat Included", "Night Ride, Greek Treat Included" and "Private E-Bike, Map and Water". Dragatsaniou 6, in the commercial centre near Syntagma, is where "Fast-Paced Ride, Pasteli Snack" and "E-Bike Hidden Gems and Highlights" meet. Tzireon 12 in the Makrygianni area, beside the Acropolis Museum, hosts "Small-Group Scenic E-Bike, 3 Hours" and "Historical Centre Bike Ride", while Erisichthonos 54 in Thissio is the start for "3-Hour Ride, Light Refreshments" and Parthenonos 9 in Makrygianni for "1-Hour Express E-Bike Tour".

Two further points sit outside the center. Thessalonikis 172 in Petralona is the meeting point for "Ride through Athens' Local Treasures" and the "Coastal Bike Tour and Swimming Adventure", while Veikou 131 in Koukaki is where the "Aegina E-Bike and Walking Day Trip" begins. On the coast, Vergoti Square in Glyfada is where "Glyfada to Voula Coast Ride" begins, and Leof. Andrea Siggrou 22 near the Acropolis metro serves the two trike tours. The map below plots each one.

Getting to a meeting point with your own bike is governed by the operator's published rules. For the Athens metro, the OASA passenger regulation states: "In the metro the transfer of up to two (2) bicycles in the last door of every train. The cyclists will carry their bicycles and must use elevators and not the escalators." On buses and trolleybuses the rule is stricter: "only folding bicycles, placed in the special carrying holder (maximum dimensions 33x66x80cm)".

Suburban and regional trains have their own terms. Hellenic Train carries conventional bicycles free on the Athens-Chalkida, Piraeus-Airport and Piraeus-Kiato lines, "up to 4 conventional bicycles (carriages 2 & 4)", with two per carriage on the Kiato-Aigio, Tavros-Kiato and Paiania-Ano Liosia sections. On long-distance trains with a luggage van, such as the Athens-Thessaloniki services, the charge is 5 EUR per bicycle at station ticket offices, a valid passenger ticket is required and up to 5 bicycles are accepted per train.

A tidy line of helmeted cyclists riding along the edge of a broad boulevard with palm trees

Fares are modest. The OASA 90-minute ticket costs 1.20 EUR, or 0.50 EUR discounted, and is not valid on the X80 or on metro line 3 beyond Koropi. The daily ticket costs 4.10 EUR and covers 24 hours including the X80. A 5-day ticket costs 8.20 EUR, and the 3-day tourist ticket costs 20.00 EUR, valid on the X80 and including the airport.

One thing the map cannot yet show: a city-run e-bike network. The Municipality of Athens announced a public auction on 3 September 2026 to lease a network of e-bike rental stations, with at least 200 e-bikes across 50 stations and 340 locking or charging positions. This is a tender only. No municipal dock-based scheme is documented as operating.

The table below sets out the rules for each mode.

How Does A Typical Ride On Bike Tours Athens Unfold, And How Long Does It Run?

Cyclists on city bikes and e-bikes pause at a Plaka corner, seen from behind while a guide points toward the Acropolis.

Meeting Point And Equipment

Every listing names a specific meeting point, and several cluster near the Acropolis: Athanasiou Diakou 16, in Makrygianni close to the Acropolis metro stop, hosts six tours, while Apostolou Pavlou 53 on the Thissio side hosts seven more. From there the sequence is consistent across the listings: equipment handout, then departure. Bikes are stated as included on 29 of the 31 tours, and helmets on 25. Where a listing leaves the bike or helmet unstated, the booking page says nothing either way, so read that listing's inclusions line before assuming.

The Route And The Stops

The guided rides thread the classical core. The places named across the listings include the Acropolis slopes, Plaka, Anafiotika, Philopappou Hill, the Ancient Agora, Kerameikos, Monastiraki, Syntagma Square, the Panathenaic Stadium and the Temple of Olympian Zeus. A guide or tour leader is stated on 27 of the 31 tours. Several listings state the ride stops for photos but does not enter archaeological sites: "Historic E-Bike, 1.5 to 2.5 Hours" and "2-Hour Night Highlights E-Bike" both say so in their notes. For actual entry, the listings with an Acropolis option are the ones to check.

Food And Refreshments On The Way

Some rides build in a tasting or a snack. A treat, tasting or snack is stated on 6 of the 31 tours: "3-Hour Ride, Light Refreshments" includes snacks, "City to Sea E-Bike, Pastry Tasting" includes a traditional pastry tasting, and "Fast-Paced Ride, Pasteli Snack" includes snacks plus a locker. Drinks are stated on 16 tours, most often bottled water. "Private Ride, Wine or Ouzo Included" lists alcoholic beverages and food tasting in its inclusions. Where a listing omits food and drink from its inclusions, the listing does not state them, so plan to bring your own.

Sunset And Night Rides32 hours2.5 hours3 hours3 of 3

Reading The Ride-Length Numbers

The table above shows how duration varies by category. City and Acropolis rides run 2.5 to 3.5 hours with a median of 3.0. E-bike tours stretch from a 1-hour express loop to 4.5 hours, with a median of 3.0. Riviera and coast rides span 2 to 5 hours around a 3.4-hour median. Sunset and night rides are the shortest category, 2 to 3 hours with a median of 2.5. Private and day trips range from 2.5 hours to 12 hours, which is why that category's numbers need the most interpretation.

The Long Rides And The Day Trip

Two listings account for the extremes. The "Aegina E-Bike and Walking Day Trip" runs 12 hours per its listing, a full-day island trip that includes ferry tickets and a tour leader from Athens; the listing also states travellers should have moderate physical fitness and know how to ride a bike. The "Hymettus Mountain E-Bike Tour" runs 5 hours with the same fitness and cycling notes. Both start at Veikou 131 in Koukaki. Closer to town, the "E-Bike Tour, Acropolis Tickets Included" at 4.5 hours is the longest e-bike listing that stays in the city.

Group Sizes On The Day

Where caps are stated, they vary widely by category: e-bike tours state caps from 8 to 20 riders, riviera rides from 6 to 15, and city rides from 10 to 12. The sunset listings that state a cap sit between 8 and 12. Private listings state a cap of 8 where given. A smaller cap means a tighter group on the same route, so weigh that alongside duration when a shortlist has two rides of similar length.

Quotes are copied verbatim from each tour's own booking listing. Nothing here is collected or edited by this site, which only chooses which lines to show.

How Do Greece's 2026 Cycling Rules And Fines Affect Bike Tours Athens?

Helmeted cyclists ride single file in a marked bike lane along a tree-lined avenue beside the National Garden.

Greece's Road Traffic Code, Law 5209/2025, sets the rules every cyclist in Athens rides under, and the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport publishes the fine amounts. Here is what the law asks of you on a bicycle or e-bike.

Helmets And Who Must Wear One

For bicycle riders, the law recommends an approved protective helmet but does not make it mandatory. The mandatory helmet rule applies to riders of light personal electric vehicles, the e-scooter type the code calls EPMV, with a fine of 30 EUR for riding one without.

Sharing Space With Pedestrians

Cyclists must dismount and walk when they obstruct or endanger pedestrians, with a 30 EUR fine for failing to do so. Children under 12 must be accompanied by a person aged 16 or older on roads for motor vehicles, again with a 30 EUR fine.

How You Ride

Riding two or more side by side is prohibited, and both hands must stay on the handlebar except when signalling. Hand signals are required if the bike has no indicators. Each of these carries a 30 EUR fine.

Lights And Reflectors

At night the bike needs one white or yellow front light, one red rear light or reflector, at least one reflector per side and a yellow reflector on each pedal. Racing bikes, mountain bikes and small-wheeled bikes are exempt when not ridden at night. A violation falls in the 30 EUR category.

Lanes And Signals

Where a cycle lane exists, cyclists may not use the rest of the carriageway. Two-way cycling is allowed on cycle roads. Running a red bicycle signal carries a 150 EUR fine.

Passengers And Cargo

Carrying a passenger is banned, with two exceptions: one passenger on a bike built with two pedal sets and a fixed extra seat, or a child or infant in a special non-permanent seat.

On a guided tour, the guide leads the route and sets the pace, but the Road Traffic Code applies to each rider individually. A few points deserve attention before you roll out.

Phones And Headphones

Hand-held phone or smartwatch use while riding carries a 350 EUR fine. Headphones connected to audio devices are prohibited too, with the same 350 EUR amount. Open-ear radio communication between riders is the stated exception.

Signals And Alcohol

Running a red bicycle signal costs 150 EUR. The alcohol rules in the code cover every road vehicle, with impairment set at 0.50 g/l blood or 0.25 mg/l breath. There is no cyclist-specific threshold.

What The Tours Provide

The listings state a helmet is included on 25 of the 31 tours. Even though the law only recommends a helmet for bicycle riders, most listings bundle one with the bike, and several, including "E-Bike Coast Ride, Water Included", note helmets for adults and children. A few listings leave the helmet unstated, so check the booking page if you want one.

None of this changes the tour itself. The group rides together, the guide handles the route, and the fines above are the published Ministry figures. Treat them as background for riding in Athens traffic, not as legal advice.

When To Go On Bike Tours Athens: Heat, Marathon Weekend And Mild Months

Athens has a long hot summer and a short wet winter, and the difference between a pleasant ride and a sweltering one comes down to the month you pick. The figures below come from the Hellenic National Meteorological Service, recorded at the Elliniko station between 1955 and 2010. Elliniko sits on the coast, so central Athens runs warmer by day than these numbers show.

The Mild Months

April, May and October are the comfortable window. April has a mean temperature of 16.1 C with a mean daily maximum of 19.6 C and about 25.5 mm of rain. May is warmer still, averaging 20.9 C with a maximum of 24.4 C and only 14.3 mm of rain across roughly 6.4 rain days. October averages 19.6 C, tops out at a mean maximum of 23.4 C, and sees about 45.9 mm of rain.

The Hot Months

July and August are the peak, with a mean daily maximum of 32.2 C in both months and mean temperatures of 28.3 C and 28.2 C respectively. Rain is nearly absent, 6.3 mm in July and 6.2 mm in August, spread over fewer than two rain days each. June and September sit between the extremes, with mean maximums of 29.2 C and 28.3 C.

Sunset Ride, Regular or E-Bike

The Wet Months

November and December bring the heaviest rain, 60.1 mm and 62.0 mm respectively, with 10.9 and 13.5 rain days. Mean maximums drop to 18.8 C and 15.1 C. January and February stay cool and damp, averaging 10.3 C and 10.6 C.

Annual precipitation totals 387.5 mm. The monthly ribbon below shows the full pattern.

Marathon Weekend, 7 And 8 November 2026

The 43rd Athens Authentic Marathon runs its marathon and 10 km races on Sunday 8 November 2026, with the 5 km, Night Run and kids races on Saturday 7 November 2026. The road closures are wide and long. From Thursday 5 November 08:00 to Monday 9 November 08:00, Irodou Attikou closes along its full length, along with Vas. Georgiou B between Rigillis and Irodou Attikou. From Friday 6 November 15:00 to Sunday 8 November 22:00, Vas. Konstantinou, Arditou and M. Mousourou close to all vehicles, bikes included. Mousourou, and on Saturday Vas. Sofias closes as well. The decree states the closures apply to all vehicles, including bicycles and e-scooters, and on 4 November 2026 Athens24.com reported the ban extends to affected routes such as Marathonos Avenue and central streets. Public transport service changes run from Friday 6 to Sunday 8 November 2026.

If your tour departs on 7 or 8 November, the route may be rerouted. Check the booking page before you go.

Summer Heat Closures

There is one dated case of heat closing a site. A news report of Ministry of Culture action states the Acropolis closed from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Tuesday 8 and Wednesday 9 July 2025, when temperatures were near 40 C. That is a single case, not a standing rule, but it lines up with the July and August mean maximum of 32.2 C at Elliniko.

What Is Included On Bike Tours Athens, And What To Bring?

A row of city bikes and e-bikes with helmets and water bottles stands ready in Thissio near the Ancient Agora hill.

Across the 31 tours compared here, the bike itself is the one item the listings state most consistently: 29 of 31 tours include a bicycle or e-bike in the listed price. Helmets are stated as included on 25 tours, and a guide or tour leader appears on 27. Beyond the basics, the inclusions thin out: drinks are stated on 16 listings and a meal or food tasting on just 6.

What The Listings Say You Get

Several tours go further than wheels and a route. The "3-Hour Ride, Light Refreshments" listing includes light refreshments and snacks alongside the bicycle and helmet. The "City to Sea E-Bike, Pastry Tasting" listing adds a traditional pastry tasting, while "Private Ride, Wine or Ouzo Included" lists bottled water, food tasting and alcoholic beverages. The "Historical Centre Bike Ride" listing covers coffee and/or tea, bottled water, all fees and taxes, and third party liability cover.

Private Ride, Wine or Ouzo Included

What Is Typically Excluded

Exclusion lists repeat a few items across tours. Hotel pickup and drop-off appears as an exclusion on many listings, and no listing here states hotel pickup as an inclusion. Gratuities are named as excluded on tours including "2-Hour Night Highlights E-Bike". Entrance fees to sites, monuments and museums are excluded on the "Historical Centre Bike Ride" listing, and several listings state plainly that the tour does not enter the sights, among them "Historic E-Bike, 1.5 to 2.5 Hours" and "City Ride, Greek Treat Included".

The Acropolis Ticket Question

Acropolis entry is handled as an option rather than a default. "Regular or E-Bike, Optional Acropolis" includes a guided Acropolis visit with a licensed guide only for bookings with the "Bike Tour + Acropolis" option; the entry ticket is excluded unless that option is selected. "E-Bike Tour, Acropolis Tickets Included" from $79.09 per person covers the entrance ticket for bookings made with tickets, and the "Small Group, Optional Acropolis Stop" listing includes tickets when the Acropolis plus entrance tickets option is selected. Where a listing does not state an inclusion, this page reports it as unstated rather than assuming either way.

The know-before-you-go details sit on each listing, and they differ from tour to tour. The lines below are drawn from the listing notes exactly as they appear, attributed to the tours that state them.

Rider Height And Size Limits

Several e-bike listings from the same operator state that e-bikes suit riders 147 cm (5 ft) and taller, and ask riders between 147 and 160 cm to say so in advance so a smaller bike can be arranged. The notes on "Regular or E-Bike, Optional Acropolis", "Small Group, Optional Acropolis Stop", "Sunset Ride, Regular or E-Bike", "City to Sea E-Bike, Pastry Tasting" and "E-Bike Tour, Acropolis Tickets Included" all carry this line, and the first adds that participants under 147 cm can join with a regular bike on the e-bike option. Two listings, "City Ride, Greek Treat Included" and "Night Ride, Greek Treat Included", ask riders to make sure they are under 120kg/260 pounds.

Mid-Motor E-Bike, Live Audio Guide

Weather And Cancellation On The Day

The listings split on weather. Tours from the Athanasiou Diakou meeting point state they operate under all weather conditions, rain or shine. The "Mid-Motor E-Bike, Live Audio Guide" listing also states the tour takes place rain or shine. By contrast, "City Ride, Greek Treat Included", "Night Ride, Greek Treat Included" and "Private E-Bike, Map and Water" each state the tour is canceled in the event of rain with a full refund.

Age And Ability Requirements

The "E-Bike Hidden Gems and Highlights" listing sets a minimum age of 16 years and requires basic cycling ability, confirmed with a test ride; it also states the tour is not suitable for pregnancy or serious back or knee issues. "Mid-Motor E-Bike, Live Audio Guide" carries a 14+ age restriction and asks for confident cycling skill. The "2-Hour Night Highlights E-Bike" listing details child passengers aged 4 to 11 riding on the back seat or in a co-pilot position, with children wanting their own e-bike booked under a youth 11-14 category, taller than 1.50 meters with good balance. "Trike Ride, Training Session First" states anyone under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. Comfortable shoes and clothes appear repeatedly in the what-to-bring lines, and the "E-Bike Ride to the Seaside" listing suggests bringing swimwear and sunscreen if weather permits a swim stop.
